Competition in the Chinese Automobile Industry Essay
There are many scientific inventions in our world. Some of these inventions are even in the houses that we live in. There are inventions such as computer games, the microwave oven, and even the Moto vehicle. These inventions make our lives much easier but it destroys the world as well. Everything and everyone gets harmed some way by these inventions. Letââ¬â¢s start off with this. The computer is entertaining but yet dangerous to our eyes. Children of our world love being on the computer. But they shouldnââ¬â¢t love it too much, because if you stare and are too close to the computer for far too long, your eyes begin to hurt and you become shot sighted. This is so because your brain decides that you donââ¬â¢t need to be able to see things far away and only see thing that are close to you. The computer is one of the best inventions because it helps you with a lot of things. Number one is work. It allows us to save all our important document and keeps them in a private file. The microwave oven. This is a machine that heats thing. Itââ¬â¢s great in homes for when you want to heat foods. About 1/3 of the world has one. Iââ¬â¢ll say this; microwave oven heats your foods but also destroys your health. As the microwave heats up, it sends of radiation inside and out. Your foods become polluted with radiation and if youââ¬â¢re too close to it you as well. Who likes eating cold food? I mean we all like food nice and hot, so we should have a microwave oven in our houses. I personally canââ¬â¢t go without a microwave. It one of my favorite scientific inventions. One of the most used scientific inventions would be the motor vehicle. Now this is brilliant! The motor vehicle or should I say, cars are very common to our modern day lives. EVERYBODY has one. Well if you have a license of course. Now cars are a complex piece of machinery. Itââ¬â¢s like youââ¬â¢re basically holding a fully loaded gun. Almost every day there is an accident that occurs. We may not see it, but it happens. People get greatly injured or even die from car accidents. On the positive side, cars do have its advantages. People use cars to transport themselves around. It takes you from one place to another. Instead of having to walk, you drive. Another thing about cars, it pollutes the air badly. This is so because cars give off a great deal of smoke sometimes. This affects the greenhouse gases and even worse, the ozone layer. If the air is completely contaminated people with die. People that believe these machines are not good for our lives are somewhat correct but wrong. I believe that it has made our lives really easy and less complex. I think it has done wonders to the world and we should all appreciate the advantage we get from this.

Cezanneââ¬â¢s Apple Notes and Quotes Essay
Schapiroââ¬â¢s psychoanalytic approach, that is, his search for the underlying meaning and relevance to the painting, * Thesis: While Schapiroââ¬â¢s argument shows a well-considered analysis of the artistââ¬â¢s life as a source of interpretation of Cezanneââ¬â¢s work, much of it is based on suggestion and fantasy. As in all historical interpretation, Cezanneââ¬â¢s work should be viewed within the context of the artistââ¬â¢s historical and biographical framework, but with a formalist analysis of the works that enables the viewer to interpreted not only their personal value, but their intended communication. riticism of Cezanneââ¬â¢s art cannot and, I believe, should not be limited by critical schools of thought. Also, though perhaps it has been the nature of critics to make vastly differentiating interpretations of Cezanneââ¬â¢s work, both forms of analysis add to the richness of the dialogue that can expand oneââ¬â¢s preconceived notions of the work and widen the scope of understanding and perspective. Contrary to views of critics such as Roger Fry whose formalist analysis deduces Cezanneââ¬â¢s works as only a problem of form and color, Schapiro seeks more symbolist meaning within the subject matter chosen by the artist. * Schapiro argues that the objects placed within the still-life display ââ¬Å"a game of an introverted personality who has found for his art of representation an objective sphere in which he feels self-sufficient, masterful, free from disturbing other spheres. Schapiro believes that fruit is never the theme, rather, they are a symbol of his emotion and personal concerns. * Schapiro makes the case against a purely formal interpretation: ââ¬Å"It might be supposed that in still-life painting the meaning of the work is merely the sum of the denotation of the separate parts, yet there may be connotations and a comprehensive quality arising from the combined objects and made more visible and moving through the artistic conception. â⬠¦ (i. e. black clock 1870, still w. compotier 79-82, blue vase 83-85, still w. cupid 95, or pples and oranges 95) There is in still like a unity of things like the unity of a scene of action, one must recognize the context of the objects in reality, their connection with a mood or interest or type of occasion. (24) * Cannot look at these as purely sexual, an element in a painting serves more than one function. Apples could be chosen means of emotional detachment and self-control, the fruit providing an objective field of colors, and sensuous richness lacking in his earlier passionate art and not fully realized in his later nude paintings. Sexual displacement could be an unconscious factor. Certainly, Cezanne has a strange relationship with the human figure in his earlier works. In his early works, sexual gratification is directly displayed or implied. A modern Olympia (1873), Bacchanal, and his other pictures of the nudes show that he could not convey his feeling for women without anxiety. In his painting of the nude woman, where he does not produce an old work, he is most often constrained or violent. there is no middle ground of simple enjoyment. In Leda and the Swan, the writer argues that it is a striking instance of the defusing of a sexual theme through replacement of a figure by still-life objects. Cezanneââ¬â¢s fruit is not yet fully part of human life. Suspended between nature and use, it exists as if for contemplation alone. (25) In Cezanneââ¬â¢s painting of landscape, too, and sometimes of the human being, we recognize the same distinctive distance from action and desire. He seems to realize a philosopherââ¬â¢s concept of aesthetic perception as a pure will-less knowing. * The still-life objects bring to awareness the complexity of the phenomenal and the subtle interplay of perception and artifice in representation. (19) Still-life eng ages the painter in a steady looking that discloses new and elusive aspects of the stable object. At first commonplace, it may becomes in the course of that contemplation a mystery, a source of metaphysical wonder. (20) Still-life calls out a response to an implied human presence. The represented objects, in their relation to us, acquire meanings from the desires they satisfy as well as from their analogies and relations to the human bodyâ⬠¦ They are a symbol or heraldry of a way of life. (23) * Yet, though the nature of the Apples seems to deserve far richer analysis of simple line and form, the use of apples as a restraint of Cezanneââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"morbid fantasiesâ⬠(29), seems to evoke some fantastical properties of its own. * Apple as a displaced erotic interest? Apple has erotic senseââ¬âsymbol of love, an attribute of Venus and a ritual object in marriage ceremonies. The apple is a natural analogue of ripe human beauty (6). Philostatus, Greek writer of 200 AD, describes a painting of Cupids gathering apples in a garden of Venus, which serve as the source of Titianââ¬â¢s painting of the cult of Venus, and indirectly Rubensââ¬â¢ picture of putti carrying a parland of the fruit. * Apples (1875) For Cezanne, the apple is equivalent to the human figure. He could project typical relations of human beings as well as qualities of the larger visible worldââ¬âsolitude, contact, accord, conflict, serenity, abundance and luxuryââ¬âand even states of elation and enjoyment. * In passing from the painting of fantasies to the discipline of observation, Cezanne made of colorââ¬âthe principle of art allied to sensuality and pathos in romantic painting but underdeveloped in his own early pictures of passionââ¬âthe beautiful substance of stable, solid object-forms and a deeply coherent structure of the composition. It is extremely doubtful that he could have reached his goal had he followed Delacroix in his choice of subjects. But in the self-chastening process, the painting of still-lifeââ¬âas latent symbol and intimate tangible realityââ¬âwas, perhaps more than his other themes, a bridge between his earlier and his later art. Jailbreaking
When Apple designs these products, they come with a redesigned firmware that restricts certain capabilities that otherwise the device would be able to do, such as wife mobile hotshots, direct downloading capabilities, and more Insignificant features, like moving screen savers. Along with the understandable, ââ¬Å"deservedâ⬠capabilities Jailbreak offers, It also enables the ability for the user to access and download APS, and settings that Apple's firmware protected against due to their Illegal content. Thus the question on the topic Is If jailbreak is the ââ¬Å"rightâ⬠thing for a user to do with his/her device.Due to the fact hat the user purchases the device outright, they should have the right to do whatever they please with the firmware and device itself even if it enables illegal activities, the user should be able to decide whether or not to obey the law, and the user should have full control of their apple device. When someone purchases any material object, it is the assumption that the buyer has the right to do as he/she pleases with the purchased object, and the situation should not be any different for the ââ¬ËTouch, Phone, or Pad, Thus making the process of Jailbreak morally acceptable, as well as legally Just.If a restriction Is put on a person's own property, then the property really Is not owned, which Is okay, If that Is pre-deloused to the buyer so that they know that everything about the purchased object must maintain its original construct. In the case of these Apple products, stipulations were not pre-disclosed to the buyer, and instead Apple attempted to put restrictions on the process of jailbreak after the products were sold, which is morally unacceptable, as well as unfair to the user. When someone goes to the electronics store, or apple vendor to purchase the phone, r one of its cousin devices it is always the situation that the device is purchased outright, even if it is purchased with an attached cell phone contract, the device belongs to the buyer, but for some reason Apple still believes that although they have sold their product outright, they should still be able to control what the purchaser does with the device sold. This idea that Apple has Is completely ludicrous, and to put the situation In perspective, let's change the scenario, being the object purchased, and the business selling.Suppose someone went to a typical car dealership and purchased a brand new rives home in his new car, and starts tinkering with the engine, installing a blower through the hood, and a super charger for the extra speed. If the dealership called the buyer and told him that these modifications aren't allowed by their company, the buyer would be thoroughly confused and upset, for it is policy that once an object is purchased the buyer can do as they please with the object.Although there is a great difference between a car and an phone, the concepts involved with the two of them are essentially the same, when someone buys a car they can tinker, and add on to the icicle as much as they want, and the situation should be no different for any of the Apple products under discussion. The main point that Apple tried to use when trying to make the process of jailbreak illegal was when they stated that the process was in violation of copyright laws because it modifies the boatload they had designed, and have complete ownership of.Unfortunately for Apple, their case was lost in court, and the process of Jailbreak was proved to be legal, an article written about the case took an excerpt from the trial's outcome, writing, ââ¬Å"Federal regulators lifted a cloud of uncertainty when they announced it was lawful to hack or ââ¬Å"Jailbreakâ⬠an phone, declaring Monday there was ââ¬Ëno basis for copyright law to assist Apple in protecting its restrictive business model. ââ¬Å"(wired. Com). After losing their case in court, Apple decided to make a policy for Jailbreaks devices that disavowed any Apple Care (insurance) on the Jailbreaks pods. Apple's main reasoning for the policy they made, is that the modifications to the SO that Jailbreak does causes system errors, and other minor problems to the devices performance, Apple states (when speaking of why Jailbreak should not be permitted), ââ¬Å"Disruption of services: Services such as Visual Biochemical, Youth, Weather, and Stocks have been disrupted or no longer work on the device.Additionally, third-party APS that use the Apple Push Notification Service have had difficulty receiving notifications or received notifications that were intended for a different hacked device. Other push-based services such as Mobile and Exchange have experienced problems synchronizing data with their respective servers. ââ¬Å"(Redmond). Although what Apple states about how Jailbreak an hinder the devices performance, and cause otherwise non-existent problems may be true, it is not Justification to put a limitation on what a user can do to the devic e.Even if Jailbreak made the Apple product completely break without hope for repair, the act of doing it should always be the user's choice. Another aspect to look into when considering if the devices in question should be allowed to be Jailbreaks, is the illegal side of the capabilities Jailbreak offers. It is a known fact that once an phone is Jailbreaks, due to the fact it can connect online ritually anywhere due to the cell service, it can be one of the most devastating tools for a hacker. The significant difference between one of the Apple devices hacking, and a computer hacking, is this difference in internet connection, as well as mobility and concealment. After all, someone sitting outside of a house with a laptop and an encoder attached to the computer would look a lot more conspicuous than a passerby that seems to Just be testing on an phone, when in fact they could be using one of the many wife hacking APS like ââ¬Å"rickrackâ⬠to access the files on your amputees, o r in your ââ¬Å"cloudâ⬠trying to get social security numbers, credit card electronic storage. The fact that an phone alone could give hackers and identity thieves the Holy Grail they have awaited is a fact that Apple tried to exploit when giving reasons as to why Jailbreak should be illegal. Apple stated, ââ¬Å"Security compromises have been introduced by these modifications that could allow hackers to steal personal information, damage the device, attack the wireless network, or introduce mallard or viruses. â⬠(Redmond).Although every claim Apple made is a act, and there are security risks that come along with the legalization of Jailbreak, it is very obvious once the situation is examined, that if a hacker truly wished to us an Apple device to his/her evil ends, it really would not matter whether or not the process was legal or not for hackers and identity thieves are already doing illegal things, thus even if Jailbreak was ââ¬Å"illegalâ⬠they would still do it .Although the negative aspects to Jailbreak are often magnified, there are actually more benefits than risks to the process. When a device is Jailbreaks, its full attention is reached. An entirely new app store is revealed to the user, APS that could not/ would not contract with the Apple app store are available for purchase, and sometimes for free.Along with thousands of new APS, Jailbreak also allows the user to customize the load out (home screen) and dock (bottom toolbar) to their liking, while still being connected to the original Apple app store. In an article about the pros and cons of Jailbreak PC world wrote, ââ¬Å"Acadia and its newer, lighter competitor Icy are the unofficial app stores available only to Jailbreaks. In these tortes, you'll find hundreds of terrific APS that have been rejected from the App Store for providing features that Apple would rather you not have.Examples? Accorder is a camera app that enables video-recording on pre-ASS phones; Pedant allows tethe ring of your 36 connection to your laptop; and Gobble is an app for the Google Voice service. Plus, you can still get free and paid APS from the official App Store, so Jailbreaks get the best of both worlds. ââ¬Å"(popcorn). With this substantial advantage given to Jailbreaks, it is understandable why it is done, and why it is the est. thing to do if the user truly wants complete control of their device without limitation. This reasoning for Jailbreak also proves that malice is not attached to every reason for Jailbreak, the process can, and more often than not is simply done to access APS, and customizations restricted by the app store, and as long as the reasoning is pure and without foul intention Jailbreak is the right thing to do. After every aspect of Jailbreak is examined, the pros and cons, the risks, and legalities, it is more than apparent that the process is morally acceptable to do, as Eng as the Jailbreak is also the owner, or has permission from the owner of the device .The process is also acceptable because of the simple fact that as of today it is legal, despite Apples efforts to make it otherwise. Through the use of the situation between Apple and Jailbreak people can be reminded of the importance of owning anything in life, the responsibility that comes along with the situation, as well as the great satisfaction, for when anything in life is truly owned the only person/ thing that can make the rules is the owner, a situation that is too often taken for granted in today's society.

Investigation and Apprehension of Offenders Research Paper
Investigation and Apprehension of Offenders - Research Paper Example Furthermore, it discusses the effectiveness of sting operations by considering the factors, which indicate that a case is resolved. Sting Operations use at the BPD The BPD adopts sting operations upon reviewing the findings proposed by Dr. Langworthy because of the significance of the tactic in addressing criminal dealings in the area. The application of sting operations necessitates the department to establish an implementation policy (Stojkovic, Kalinich & Klofas, 2007). Furthermore, the BPD needs to appraise and determine diverse practices basing on the objectives and logistics for completing such operations. The department potential goals of employing sting operations entail determining its usefulness in reducing crime levels. The department also focuses on approximating the potential number of offenders who can be arrested using the tactic (Stojkovic, Kalinich & Klofas, 2007). Finally, applying this tactic allows the department to decide on public participation opportunities in assisting the force in dealing with unlawful activities. The development of an operation implementation formula requires the department to determine the necessary inputs that facilitate its effectiveness. These inputs would include finances that the department uses in advancing sting operations. The tactic requires massive budgeting to cater for the property displayed on storefronts and finances used for purchasing other entrapment items (Lynch & Lynch, 2005). The department also requires investigative personnel as input into the operations. These will include trained officers that possess the acumen to sting criminals. Other inputs also include apparatus and buildings that undercover officers utilize in executing their investigative duties. These inputs are significant because they make it simple to acquire credible evidence that makes prosecution easier (Lynch & Lynch, 2005). This is because aspects of such proofs contain factors that indicate a case is solved by offering prima fa cie substantiation. The activities undertaken during sting operations also form a crucial component of the policy. These activities would entail well-designed operations such as installing items for ensnaring wrongdoers. The activities also include personnel working as salespersons or buyers of certain property (Lynch & Lynch, 2005). The personnel also execute patrolling initiatives for purposes of finding wrongdoers undertaking outlawed activities. Undertaking the activities take place through a combination of inputs that consequently leads to attaining outcomes. Sting operations also generate outputs that indicate the results of utilizing inputs in completing certain activities. Investigators outputs may entail the escalated arrests that take place during operations (Lynch & Lynch, 2005). Furthermore, taking away criminals property, stolen goods, and commercial licenses also forms outputs. The property that investigators obtain from wrongdoers is proofs that such people undertake unlawful activities. It is paramount to insinuate that such property finds use during prosecution and contains aspects that connote a case is solved. Other outputs also include videos recorded

Business Ethics - Essay Example She is told that it is harmless and owing to her lack of knowledge, she doubts that the hospital management is right in saying so. She cannot jeopardize her job on the basis of a doubt! Letââ¬â¢s analyze the matter with the utilitarian theory of ethics. The utilitarian theory of ethics says that any action whose consequences are good is justified. By reporting the companyââ¬â¢s matter to her friend, Deborah would never be able to achieve a favorable result. Everybody in the management would suspect her to have leaked out the news and would take severe action against her in addition to firing her from the job. Besides, if she tells her friend, it would create a bad image of the hospital in the public eye. Hence, by leaking out this information, Deborah would never be able to do the ultimate good. She might suspect that this would at least save the life of the community, but she needs scientific knowledge to be sure enough! So the utilitarian theory of ethics suggests that Debora h should drop her plans of leaking this information. The reasonable limit of loyalty to oneââ¬â¢s employer is the very state of doubt that Deborah is in. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦acts should be classified as morally right or wrong only if the consequences are of such significance that a person would wish to see the agent compelled, not merely persuaded and exhorted, to act in the preferred mannerâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Utilitarian ethicsâ⬠). Once she is sure that the hospitalââ¬â¢s waste dumping act has lethal implications upon the environment, she may break her loyalty with the hospital. By doing so, she may jeopardize her job, but this world is about much more than just earning money. She would sacrifice her job this way, but will be rewarded for her noble act and sacrifice by God Almighty. Certainly, things would have been different had Deborah been in a position of greater authority. A potential reason why the managers are not taking her seriously is the fact that she is nothing more than a

Motivation and Performance Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Motivation and Performance - Essay Example In fact the intrinsic motivation is preferable as the employee develops affinity with the organization and considers the welfare of the organization to be his wellbeing. This improves his productivity and performance since it will go along with his satisfaction. Such employees are also loyal to the company's cause. In contrast the employee who looks for extrinsic motivation becomes greedy in anticipation and looks for alternatives to promote his own wellbeing. Two academic articles have been put up for review. Seijts, G.H., Latham, G.P., Tasa, K. & Latham, B.W. (2004) in their article "Goal setting and goal orientation: An integration of two different yet related literatures" published in the Academy of Management Journal suggest that goal orientation and goal setting are two different fields that are unfortunately considered as one composite by most authors. In their view this does not augur well in establishing that motivation and devotion are the causative elements of better performance by employees. They argue that goal setting does not take into consideration the level of preparedness or personality of the employee who is expected to benefit out of it and in turn the company does not gain in terms of better productivity. In their view goal orientation paves the way for better understanding of the goals set and help to eventually realize the same to benefit both the employee as well as the organization. They have gone on to state that self-efficacy and quest for information act as a go-between the effect of a learning goal on performance. In their final view they confirm that their results were based on a single industry that was service oriented. For this they have relied on empirical research and have applied the same with their well explained theories. Two of the authors - Latham and Latham- have written profusely on the subject in various other publications and have covered the subject widely. On the other hand Marsden, D. (2004) has relied on the case studies of non-profit companies, to write "The role of performance-related pay in renegotiation the "effort bargain".' published in the Industrial & Labor Relations Review. His research of mostly state owned or controlled companies led him to the conclusion that although rewards and schemes that result from goal setting have been quite successful, the motivation of the participants was not a contributory factor in the end result. This appears contradictory but the author has rather convincingly proven his point in case using the empirical evidence with subjective questioning that brought out this fact. He has correctly diagnosed that the leaders and managers are under the wrong impression that their performance related schemes have borne results out of motivation despite the results being according to their expectations. He however is not reluctant to state that the out come of performance related pay has resulted in higher productivity due more to the smart use of the management ploy. Indeed it appears that this scheme has been rather well exploited by the employees and they have been able to use it as a tool to negotiate better deals for themselves. While the managements have been convinced that performance related pay has improved the productivity in services, the real fact is that the employees have craftily used this as a lever to

Biopsychosocial Case Study Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Biopsychosocial Case Study - Research Paper Example She provided a delightful, detailed impressive discussion of her past which was in no way connected to her present situation. She discussed irrelevant topics in a cute and charming manner and if the psychiatrist expressed irrelevance and changed the topic, she would become irritated and petulant. Another feature characteristic of histrionic personality disorder in Hilde was her attitude of putting the blame and responsibility of her present difficulties on some one else, other than herself. For example, Hilde stated that her husband was indifferent to her and that she suspected that he was seduced by one of his secretaries. She attributed her somatic symptoms to her husband's indifference towards her. Persons with histrionic personality disorder have interpersonal relationships that are often disrupted, shallow and insincere and emotionally, they overreact to even ordinary situations (Bienenfeld, 2009). When Hilde was pressed hard about her husband's interactions, she could not provi de any meaningful account of his relationship with the suspected secretary or the indifference attitude with her. Persons with histrionic personality disorder are excessively emotional and the emotions are labile. They exhibit attention-seeking behaviour. They are very dramatic and are frequently seductive or sexually provocative. They often suffer from somatoform disorders (Bienenfeld, 2009). Hilde suffered from frequent headaches and the physician has found it difficult to diagnose and treat the disorders Persons with histrionic personality disorder are usually emphatic and also socially perceptive. Hence, they tend to elicit new relationships easily. However, due to their emotionally insensitive nature, they lack the insight of their role in their own relationships and hence to do accept any blame for the inevitable problems in their relationships. Thus, they are closer to the defense mechanism of paranoid patterns of personality. In a parallel interview with Hilde's husband, he admitted that originally, he was attracted towards Hilde because of her physical attractiveness, social status and lively nature. However, over a period of few years, he realized that her love towards him was just a chronic flamboyance and that she never had an integrated personality. It was clear to him that her liveliness was not exuberance and her physical attractiveness was declining naturally, although, Hilde was spending enormous time and money to keep it up. Hilde's husband felt that Hilde was childish and superficial Individuals with this personality are often flirtatious and seduce others sexually (Bienenfeld, 2009). But, for those who follow such clues from these individuals, they do not get paid off much. Histrionic personality is more common in females and in males and infact, they appear ultrafeminine. Intellectual accomplishment is very low in these individuals. As far as analysis thought is concerned, there is deemphasis and hence these individuals are gullible, drama tic and impressionable. While Hilde described her children as wonderful and exceptionally bright and happy, Hilde's husband provided a picture that their behaviour was analogous to that of Hilde and they were spoilt and had academic difficulties. Biological, psychological, and social factors involved in the case Several factors probably contributed to the development of histrionic person

Buseness Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Buseness - Essay Example A business plan can help in identifying the underlying assets or liabilities of the business and also would bring into light the chances of the future business success or loss. It can also provide Micky McDonald with a financial analysis of the business of the future. A comparative analysis can also be made between owning and dumping the business. Therefore, in true sense Micky McDonald can take the decision on facts and figures rather than deciding whimsically (Saint Vincent College, ââ¬Å"Importance of a Business Planâ⬠). A business plan generally consists of the executive summary of the related ideas, the methodologies, the finances and various other aspects. In relation to the topic, it is very important to prepare a business plan in a very cautious manner. As the firm has been running in losses, it is quite significant to analyze the reasons for the failure of the business. The business plan should be in line with the failures of the firm in the previous period and its chances in the future. Actually the business plan should be based on the learning of the early failures of the business. A SWOT analysis and development of the value chain is very important in the business plan as they would act as a barometer for the success if the plan is accepted. Major emphasis should also be given on the distribution as it is one of the major focuses of a marketing firm. It should also make clear the objectives and the values of the firm. The dimensions to the business plans are infinite but the major focus should be on turning the sick business into a profit making one (Hadzima, ââ¬Å"The Business Planâ⬠). It is very important to have a business plan irrespective of the nature of the business being dynamic or static. In present day scenario, each and every business is operating in a dynamic environment. The business plan actually gives the business the much needed direction. The demand for the apparels used while snowboarding would be fluctuating but the
Effects of domestic violence domestic abuse on women and children Essay Example for Free
Effects of domestic violence domestic abuse on women and children Essay 42% of women and 20% of men sustained minor injuries such as scratches, bruises, broken bones or pregnancy complications (Cathy Meyer, 2016). The result of domestic abuse does have long-term physical effects including digestive problems, hypertension or skin disorders (www.liveabout.com 15/11/17). Family members, especially children, can experience the physical effects of abuse even though they have not been harmed or touched. They can complain about stomach aches, headaches and could experience irregular bowel movements and wet the bed. Many women who have been abused find it difficult to concentrate on their daily activates because of the effects of domestic abuse as they are constantly on edge. If a person is experiencing domestic abuse this can be physical as well as emotional and if the abuse is constant then regular hospital visits and rest days will be needed for a recovery if the person has a job day off will be needed and too many could lead to the person eventually being let off. When children experience domestic violence sometimes they feel confused or itââ¬â¢s their fault. If the violence or arguments takes place at night, it can be very distracting for the child to be able to sleep as they are constantly hearing the abuse given. This could affect their education as they will be tired and have poor concentration, affecting progress. Domestic abuse will have an effect on the victimââ¬â¢s emotional health as it makes them feel a range of emotions, such as anxiety, low self-esteem, suicidal thoughts or could cause a post-traumatic distress which includes unwanted flashbacks , nightmares or uncontrollable thoughts (www.joyfulheartcondition.org). Children who are exposed to domestic violence in their home could develop anxiety, fearing they might be left with the abusive parent who will then take their abuse out on them. Depression is also an emotion that most people will experience as they feel helpless and powerless. This is known to be more common in girls as boys tend to act out with aggression. Alisha Dixon, in the BBC Documentary ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t Hit My mumâ⬠, many children feel guilt that they could not prevent the abuse. Children may not want to leave the house in case their parent is unsafe. I found evidence to back this is on saying children will become clingy and not want to leave mum or dad and they feel they have a responsibility for to protect them. When in a domestic violent relationship, it is knowing that the partner will try to control the other personââ¬â¢s life by constantly knowing what they are doing and persuading or telling the victim they cannot go places when they really want to go. This will affect their relationship with family or friends causing the victim to never see them eventually leading them into isolation. Other social behavior includes aggressive behavior and poor social skills, meaning they could not make any friends as their social skills are poor. Bereavement A person dying close to you is hard both on adults and children. They can experience the same feelings as they are going through the same things however someone who is of an older age may be able to deal with the effects in a more mature manner, they will find that their energy levels will be very low as they will have a feeling f numbness inside them. If their energy is low, they will not go out and do daily activities which could lead them to stress and anxiety. Dealing with death and not everyone likes to be around people especially not in a work or school environment. This means that they will be missing out on important days in work or school causing them to fall behind building up more stress and anxiety that version does not need. When people describe losing a loved one they usually describe their self as being numb. Which is a normal defense mechanism of the mind to help you from being overwhelmed with emotions? Other people may experience guilt or anxiety

Rene Descartes And Rationalism
Rene Descartes And Rationalism Rene Descartes method of doubt centers on destroying knowledge to reconstruct knowledge thus, gaining certainty. To do so, one has to first doubt everything. This in my opinion promotes a certain kind of disunity in the world of knowledge, thus leading to no definite knowledge. Descartes states that in order for man not to be deceived by the supreme and powerful being (the devil), man will have to doubt everything, to be more specific, doubt everything in the physical sense. Descartes emphasizes that the only thing true in the world is thinking. Indeed the senses tend to make mistakes, but Descartes fails to see that these mistakes have a possibility in helping man conform into the world of knowledge. The method of doubt downplays every aspect of success in the realm of knowledge. There are several scientists who made scientific breakthroughs and contributions to the world of science by making these mistakes. This method of doubt is borderline pessimistic by nature. A mistake is in itself an error for man, but what Descartes fails to see is that these mistakes can help in making man better. Certainty cannot be obtained by doubting everything. Rene Descartes fails to present an endpoint. Meaning, he doesnt say when man has to stop doubting everything. Rene Descartes states To conquer that habit, therefore, I had better switch right around and pretend (for a while) that these former opinions of mine are utterly false and imaginary. He then states that he will stop doing so, until he finds a something that can counter-balance the weight of old opinion. All Rene Descartes does here is to present a means to an endpoint. But he never states what that endpoint is. Thus, rendering this kind of thinking unusable simply because one will never know when to stop doubting. The endpoint being certainty can also be doubted. This is because, how will one know that, that he is indeed nearing certainty or he has gotten to the truth. Rene Descartes offers absolutely no information whatsoever. All he does is again, state a means to an end. In Rene Descartes method of doubt the train of thought is always moving backwards. Backwards in the sense that in doubting everything, or by apparently destroying knowledge in order to reconstruct it, there is no sense of moving forward to certainty. The train of thought is always in the negative plain. In doing so, Id like to point out, man cannot reach certainty or at least know when to stop destroying knowledge to reach that certainty, by doubting everything. There should be a means of moving forward to that certainty, but in doubting everything all you are doing is going back and in fact lowering the plane of knowledge by doubting it. So what remains true? Perhaps just the one fact that nothing is certain? In thinking like this, Rene Descartes disproves that the only thing he is trying to find. In applying the method of doubt, I affirm that is indeed better to doubt something first before making a quick verification of something. In making a quick verification of things or in trusting your own senses quickly, at times you will err in doing so. But I would like to emphasize that I only affirm only until this aspect of Rene Descartes method of doubt. I believe it is in fact better to examine ones senses first before making a quick conclusion. Rene Descartes was right in saying that your senses are not clear enough to prove things. There are indeed things that elude the senses of man. But insofar, as doubting to the very core, I believe that no one will actually reach certainty. According to Rene Descartes, the only true science is mathematics. He states that, Mathematics is the only science that is indeed true. Insofar as certainty is concerned, there is no doubt that Mathematics is indeed certain in its plane of knowledge. But the certainty Mathematics emits is far different from the certainty we are looking for. Mathematics shows how the intellect can conform into something that is certain without the use of senses. But beyond that thinking, Mathematics is in no way useful. Mathematics as a starting point for reaching something that is certain outside numbers, will in no way bear any fruit. Mathematics is limited to the intellect. As far as certainty is concerned, it is indeed true. The big difference between Mathematics and all the other sciences is that, Mathematics is the only science that conforms to certainty. There is no way one can prove that 1 + 1 is not equal to two. In applying Mathematics as the basis for the method of doubt, I deny that Mathematics is useful. The mode of thinking in Mathematics is far distinct than the thinking used in the method of doubt. Meaning, the thinking in answering the mysteries of the world, or in this case, whether or not everything is an illusion, is far different from the realm of knowledge in Mathematics. Even if Mathematics conforms into something that is certain, I believe that Mathematics is still not a viable science in knowing whether or not something is true this is because the method of doubt of Rene Descartes is quite complex. Mathematics should not be the central science simply because it is the only science that conforms into something that is certain. Insofar as the statement Its not true if its not certain is concerned, there is no way one can reach at something that is beyond probable and without dispute. This is because the method of doubt has no clear path to begin with. The path to certainty with the use of the method of doubt, ultimately leads to nowhere. Furthermore, in the meditations, Rene Descartes emphasizes on doubting everything man sees because the devil works to deceive man. But I would like to point out, if man lives under these conditions, and supposing that there is indeed an entity that is out to trick man, man will not have a basis in understanding what is true. I believe man should never cower in fear of the unknown, and if a man does indeed doubt everything for the sole reason that there is an entity out to deceive man rather man should rise from this thinking and think accordingly. When someone is the author of his own thoughts and that author of thoughts is indeed wrong in something. I would like to argue that it is not because a supreme powerful being deceived that author of thoughts rather it is a mistake because of ignorance. The author of thoughts simply did not know what that thing is. It is not because of some supreme powerful deceiver rather the author of thoughts deceived himself because of his lack of knowledge. Mistakes in general happen because of a lack of knowledge. In conclusion, I believe Rene Descartes method of doubt is in fact useful only to a certain extent, but anywhere beyond it is downright absurd and a danger to the thinking of man. Certainty cannot emerge from doubt simply because in doubting everything, you also doubt truth as well. And in doubting truth or finding the real truth it beats the purpose of using the method of doubt of Rene Descartes. On Mathematics, I believe that Mathematics cannot be used as the central science in the method of doubt simply because it is the only science that conforms to something that is certain. And lastly, the method of doubt does not show any sign of an answer or a basis of what is true, rather all it states is to doubt everything until man reaches that very truth. Meaning, man will ultimately continue to doubt everything he senses without a limit. In doing so, if man does indeed doubt without a cause, I see no point in using the method of doubt.

Examining The Mission, Vision And Value Statements Of Three Organizations
Examining The Mission, Vision And Value Statements Of Three Organizations Introduction: This report focuses on Mission, Vision and Value Statements of an organization. The report provides the full details on the goals of the organization. The report also consists of developing the organizational strategy by taking the views of the managers. Apart from this I have also mentioned the stakeholders role in the business like power and influence of the stake holders and it has a brief explanation about the stakeholders represents more challenges than opportunities. The report also consists of developing the mission statements of the 3 organizations after having a look on their purpose, values and behavioural standards. I have used appropriate concepts, tools and techniques and also provided the recommendations to improve the business. Services to improve the organization: After analyzing the 3 views of different authors, Milton Friedman, Charles Handys and S Davies, we can go with Milton Friedmans view of profit maximisation. In this literature he explains about the social responsibilities of the business. In every organization the private property system or a corporate executive is the staff of the owners of the business. Employers are the direct responsibilities to the owners. Those responsibilities conduct business in accordance with businesss desires of making more profits. In some cases the owners have different objectives for the employers. The primary responsibility of the manager is to keep the business going with the profit and to establish a corporation with the individuals who can run the organization smoothly. The performance of the manager is not easy to judge, as how well he is doing the job. But the criteria is straightforward, and all the criterion that are exists in voluntary contractual arrangement should be clearly defined. The corporate executive has their own rights of course. Voluntarily the corporate executive has many other responsibilities that he may recognize to his conscience, his family, his feelings of the charity etc. Social responsibilities are not of the business. They dont affect the running of the business. As discussed in these cases the corporate executive is spending someone elses money for a social interest. And this may affect the earning to the stockholders. If he is doing so and not running the business smoothly then there will be a great loss to the stockholders and the owners of the company. If they want they can spend the money separately in case of stock holders, customers or the employees. Rather than serving as an agent the corporate executive is exercising a distinct social responsibility if he have spent the money in some other way than actually he would have spend it. If he does so then, there will be effect on the taxes and he have to decide how the taxes should be paid. The tax processes are the governmental functions and there will be other expenditure on theses taxes. To control these functions, we have different judicial provisions, parliamentary and constitutional provisions. To separate the function of legislative we have different systems of check and balance and there are different functions of collecting the taxes according to the law. The businessman if it is self selected or may be appointed directly/indirectly should be legislator, executive and jurist. To improve the business of the organization the leader should be motivated and have to be fully confidence in running the business. Then only we can achieve the organizational goals easily with the less investment. Organizational Strategy: The implications of these views for managers development of organizational strategy are: If we go as per Milton Friedman a manager can develop the organizational strategy with the social and corporate responsibilities together. While doing both of them together the manager cannot be able to focus on every single job. To achieve the organizational goals, the managers have to take care of both the responsibilities social and corporate. In the view of Milton Friedman The business of business is business. And this is done to increase the profit. If the employees are not satisfied with the work then they work elsewhere. If the customers are not satisfied they can take the business elsewhere. So the manager have to prepare an organizational strategy in such a way that it increase the profit. According to the Charles Handys view Shareholders should be the whole and sole owners of the business. So that they are the only persons responsible for the losses and profits of the organization. We have to be accurate to call them as the investors and the owners of the business. They can prepare the organizational strategy in such a way that it should improve the business day by day. They need to take care of all the responsibilities given to the employees and have to take care of their basic needs like food, shelter and other living things. By this the employees will be motivated and will work more fast. If the business running smoothly then there will be an increase in the profit of the organization. S. Davies, J. Lukommik and D. Pitt Watson addresses the view on the organizational strategy in their book, The New Capitalists. As per this view the business is the property of its stock owners and they have to serve their interest in the business. There are millions of pension holders and other savers that own the biggest organizations all over the world. These owners have to be highly diversified in their investments. They have to keep a record of all the investments they made and they also have to keep record of whatever they are getting profit. If the owner of the company takes the interest in the business, then the success will be all to them only. As per their view the managers have to concentrate on the success of the business. However, they need to have a look and have to serve in such a way that there must be an increase in the profit. Conflicting needs, power and influence of Stakeholders: The Stakeholders represents more challenges than opportunities. Different group of stakeholders have their different interests. Some of them are common stakeholders interests and some of them are conflict stakeholders. The Employees and the stake holders have the common interest in success of the business. If there is a high profit in the business, then their jobs will be secured and more profit to the stakeholders. In the prosperity and growth of the firm, the suppliers have their own interest. There may be an expense in the dividend if wages are raised. There may be an expense of the short term profits if the managers have an interest in organizational growth. Stakeholders power and influence: The stakeholders represents more challenges than the opportunities. The study of the stake holders should not have to be a limited as it impacts on the growth of the organization. What is more important in the context of strategy is the power and influence of the stake holder and this may affect the objectives and goals of the organization. This may be a risk to the organizational growth. The firms are most probably affected by the stake holders itself if they take risk. There will be an external pressure and an internal pressure. External pressure includes the pressure from the customers, suppliers, government (through the taxation and spending), market place and including competitors. The internal pressure to the stake holders comes from their trade unions, employees, managers and the existing commitments. And it also comes from the moral and ethical perspective of the senior managers. To have the power and the influence and for the need, the stake holders must have the desire to exert influence must have to be coupled with the means of the liabilities on the company. The power of the stakeholders reflect the extent to which: They can disrupt the strategies and plans of the organization. They can cause the uncertainty in plans. Stakeholders are the need of the organization and organization is relying on them. Primary and Secondary Stakeholders: The distinction of the stake holders can be divided into two group of stakeholders. i.e.. Primary Stakeholders and Secondary Stakeholders. Primary Stakeholders are those that are most vital to the organization. And they are the group without whom the continuous participation of the company may not survive on the running of the business. For example, supplier and customer. Secondary stakeholders are those the company can be still exist without them. And the company can participate as well. Organization managing handling Share holders issues of ethics, corporate governance and regulations: The internal stakeholders have their own perspective which they might pursue, for example, organizations profit is the need of the manager and high wages and favourable work conditions are the need of the employees. There will be an extensive power to the managers. The Internal stakeholders have the negative power that can be impede while the implementing of the strategy. The stakeholders can threaten the industrial actions. They can give threaten to resign. And they may refuse to relocate. The share holders are the whole and sole owners of the organization, they have the voting rights and they can buy or sell the shares to takeover. The government issues can be handled by share holders in the following ways. It is unacceptable if they are publicising the business activities. If there is a political change then there will be a change in the law. They can refuse to buy goods or services from the fro named firms. They have to make sure that there should not be any illegal actions held. Mission statement: These are the two main components of the business. They provides managers the unity of the direction and transcends the well conceived vision of the business. The first ideology to make the mission statement There are two components in the mission statement. They are: Core Ideology and Envisioned Future. The Core Ideology defines that organization stands for what and why it is exist. This ideology is to create the demands of the business to change the process and to help the organization getting better. It defines the future of the organization and the goals and objectives of the organization depends on these vision and mission statements. If we prepare these statements in a good and strategic manner then we can get good results in the business. When the vision statement expressed and becomes tangible then it will become a mission statement. For a manager, to lead the organization such statement verbalizes the beliefs. The definition of the mission is to define the enduring purpose and fundamental purpose of the firm that sets the statement apart from the firm in similar business. Mission statement of Tata Steel The mission statement of Tata Steel is to achieve the sustainable and profitable growth in the steel and other related businesses. Through the innovative offers they have to create the differential value for the customers. There should be a step by step improvement in the technologies and the business processes. They have to get into partnership with the key stake holders faster. To create a high performing and the innovative organization they have to enhance the employees competencies. They need to be a responsible corporate citizen and have to enhance the quality of life of the employees as well as community. The mission of the Tata Steel embodies the philosophy of the business of strategic decision makers and they would like to achieve the sustainable and the profitable growth that reflects the organizations self concept like as always being the innovative organization and the high performer. Competencies, technologies, company activities and the customer needs are the key components to design a good mission statement of an organization. In the same way, with the help of new technology and the new business processes they have created a well designed mission statement to serve the customer and for the high performance. Mission Statement of Metropolitan Police: The Mission statement of the Metropolitan police is to working together for a safer London. The main aim of the metropolitan police is to develop the police services across Northern Ireland, Wales and England to improve the response of police to those victims of the cyber crime. The mission statement also includes for the most serious cyber crime incidents to be nationally investigated and they should be capable of doing the investigation. Working together by all the other partners, colleagues and all the citizens. Delivering the quality service. Responding the complaints quickly. Working as a team as each one have different part to work for a safer London. They always takes the constant challenges to satisfy the customers, a variety in the brand should be there to satisfy the customer needs. By having the innovative and committed employees a long run in the strong market can be achieved. The main task of them is to motivate the employees and cultivate their team spirit, to achieve their personal and joint goals they have to encourage them. Following trends is enough to be a successful, constant and to be a leader in the market. To secure the competitive edge and to be recognized worldwide they have to shape trends early on. Earning power is the important concern to maintain the long term success of the company. Appropriate dividends, constant and high rate of returns, earnings oriented growth and balanced portfolios are the fundamentals for this. They feel obligated not only to the employees, customers and share holders but also to the society and the environment. Development of Mission Statement: The purpose, strategy, values and behavioural standards are the key factors of mission statements. Below are some of the points that are suggested to improve the mission statement of the above three cases. In the case of Tata Steel the main point that is suggested is they have to make use of new technologies to improve the business and be the number one in the competitive market. In the case of Metropolitan Police, the key point suggested is, they require a system that is faster than the current system. They have to act on the complaints quickly. They have to open metropolitan police stations available in each area of London. In the case of Villeroy and Boch if they have to be on number one in the competitive market they have to produce variety in their products. Customers always look for variety with the cheaper price. So they have to make the products in cheaper prices. Involve Key Stakeholders and Staff. Research and Review EOF Plans and Research college. Research and Review EOF missions and College. John And The Rebels: Act V Of Tragedy Of Richard Iii Rewritten As A Na :: essays research papers
The boy-page held the tent flap open as Richmond and his officers emerged out. They had been occupied in there since the messenger came with the letter from Stanley and had not emerged for hours afterwards. The page had waited obediently; making sure that no one interrupted the counsel. As Richmond came out, his kind eyes fell on the boy and he greeted him with a warm smile, ââ¬Å"Hello Johnâ⬠. He remembers my name! Johnââ¬â¢s heart filled with pleasure. His nervousness didnââ¬â¢t let him speak so he just bowed and smiled back. Richmond ruffled his blond hair and asked him to tend to his duties. Since the page had none, he just moved away and watched the knight pass through the ranks, instructing and encouraging the men to get ready for tomorrowââ¬â¢s battle. John knew that he had made the right decision when he fled from London to join the rebels. Since he was only eleven he was not allowed to be a soldier but Sir Oxford had noticed the boyââ¬â¢s skill with horses and so he had personally taken him in to be his page. He was content with the time spent in Richmondââ¬â¢s force although it was filled with hard chores. He was made responsible for many things and this made him proud to be a pageboy. He had met many other boys like him, who had fled from the tyranny of the evil King. Like the others his own family had suffered under Richardââ¬â¢s harsh rule. The Kings men had beheaded his father, being a noble. His mother had then left for another man and had forgotten about her only child. No one else to turn to, John fled to Richmond. Here he found the love and protection he had yearned for and enjoyed the hard work found in a marching army. A cheer from the men caused John to interrupt his thoughts. He saw that Richmond now stood on a platform, his head high above the others. John looked at him with admiration and pride. The knightââ¬â¢s warm eyes surveyed his men in a way that filled them with courage and security. As he spoke his bold voice carried clearly to John, ââ¬Å"My brave men and loving friends! We have marched into the centre of the land with no resistance from the enemy. Victory is near. Our forces shall crush the tyranny that plagues this land.

A, B, C...Not As Easy As 1, 2, 3: Are College-Bound Students Prepared?
Students that go to college ââ¬Å"to get a good jobâ⬠and those ââ¬Å"optimistic, high achieving, civic minded that hold the promise of true greatnessâ⬠according to American historian and Yale graduate Neil Howe, along with his American author and Harvard graduate William Strauss, are in for quite the reality check upon arriving to college and finding that they are ill-prepared for the curriculum established at a university. The educational system in the United States has seen many changes over its history as a country, and most recently, alarming news of the US slipping greatly behind in the Global Education Race and the College Board changing college admission standards have drastically changed the face of higher education (Snider, Global Education Race). As it is, students already struggle tremendously to adjust to the overwhelming new aspects of a college life. With little preparation, these events only worsen the minimum forms of preparation offered. Many schools co ntinue to struggle to adequately arm their students with the necessary tools needed in college. In addition, George Bushââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"No Child Left Behind Actâ⬠of 2001 has been a turning point in the history of Americaââ¬â¢s Education. The placement and expectation of all students on the same level has been argued a negative one. It is clear that the repercussions of events in history have altered the environment of contemporary education of high school students aspiring to continue onto higher education. The problem of declining University retention rates and of Americans attaining a collegiate degree can be seen as a failure of the lack of academic preparation, largely due to state standardized testing and curriculum deficiencies. This failure was a result of several important events; th... ...n. ââ¬Å"In Global Education Race, US Falls Behind.â⬠The Hechinger Report; Huffington Internet Newspaper. Evaluation Tv in My Country (Uk)
TV in my Country There are two main purposes of TV: educating/informing people and entertaining people. In this essay, I will look at how well TV in Britain, my country, achieves those purposes. The first purpose of TV is to inform and educate viewers. TV stations should regularly present national and international news. In addition, they should educate people about current affairs, health, history and science. British TV stations have regular news coverage. They also have several shows that discuss the economy, politics and other current affairs issues, such as the BBCââ¬â¢s Question Time.In addition, there are several good shows about health matters. For example, I recently saw a program called Healthwatch on the BBC which informed viewers on how to reduce the risk of getting heart disease. What is more, there are some excellent programs about history on the BBC 2. To illustrate, last week I saw a program about Alexander the Great, which included many interesting facts about his life. For instance, he never lost a war in his life, and he started leading his army at the age of 16. Lastly, British TV has some excellent science shows. For example, two days ago I watched a program called Survival which is about nature. It showed how tigers look after their babies. Consequently, you can see from the above information that British TV stations are very effective at informing and educating viewers. Another purpose of TV is to entertain viewers. Good entertainment includes comedy shows, drama, movies, music shows and sports programs. British TV shows often show excellent comedy shows such as Friends. Furthermore, there are many drama shows, movies and music shows on British TV. For example, a popular show is Coronation Street which is a soap opera about the lives of ordinary people.British TV also has some excellent shows on sport. For example Match of the Day is a show which discusses the highlights of football matches that took place earlier in the day. However, t here are very few live football games on British TV. Therefore, I can say that British TV performs very well at entertaining people. On the other hand, I would be happy if there were more live football games. In short, British TV is excellent at its purpose of educating and informing viewers. It is also generally effective at entertaining people. However, there should be more live football games.

The Emerging Popularity of Human Resource Management
What were the socioeconomic changes in the 1980ââ¬â¢s which contributed to the emerging popularity of Human Resource Management? Does the concept of Human Resource Management present a radical novelty or is it a mere repackaging of personnel management? Introduction During the 1980ââ¬â¢s, a new management concept referred to as ââ¬ËHuman Resource Managementââ¬â¢ (HRM) became very fashionable. At that time, many academics questioned whether HMR was simply a renaming of the previously known personnel management (PM) tool, or whether it was, as some claimed, ââ¬Ëa radically different philosophy and approach to management of people at workââ¬â¢ (1). Firstly, it seems appropriate to define HRM. However, the definition of HRM this has been widely debated, and so for our purposes, we will use Stephen Bachââ¬â¢s view that it ââ¬Ëcan be viewed as the involvement of particular strategies and approaches towards management of considerable labourââ¬â¢. We must also consider what we mean by ââ¬Å"socioeconomicâ⬠, which we can state as the relationship between economic activity and social life. In this essay, the similarities and differences between HRM and PM are analysed in an attempt to see whether there is more to HRM than novel rhetoric. Socioeconomic Changes Towards the end of the 1970ââ¬â¢s and the early part of the 1980ââ¬â¢s, both the US and UK economies experienced recessions of relative magnitude. Both governments sought new economic solutions, and adopted policies known as ââ¬Å"Thatcherism and Reaganomicsâ⬠, that contained monetarism and free market economics. One of the consequences of this radical period was the reforming and reshaping of what many described as the ââ¬Ëconventional model of industrial relationsââ¬â¢ (2). These new policies inevitably led to the empowerment of employers, and resulted in substantive destruction of trade union power at that time and eventually became the turning point of the era of trade unionism. There were a number of consequences as a result of this reshaping of the economy; probably the largest of note was that there was a considerable decline in a number of the mature Basic industries, such as Steel and Coal, which was balanced by the increase in the Service sector (this is still apparent today as 70% of UK GDP comes from the service sector (3)). This period of decline in many Basic industries coincidently ushered in a time for new technologies based on hi-tech products, further assisting the aim of both governments to deregulate and intensify market competition through free market economics. With anti-union legislations and privatisation at the core of the Conservative party philosophy, as Thatcher pushed to remove the power of the ââ¬Å"Socialist / Communistâ⬠trades unions, the result of which led to the encouragement of ââ¬Ëfirms to introduce new labour practices and re-order their collective bargaining arrangementsââ¬â¢ (4). This gave companies the opportunity to develop direct relationships with employees, and hence reduce further the power of trade unions. These ââ¬Ëdirect relationshipsââ¬â¢ are what some people to consider as one of the fundamentals of HRM. On a more global scale, this was an important period in the development of globalization that saw competition intensify from overseas. Japan rapidly became one of the major exporters of very competitively priced manufactured goods to the US undercutting many domestic suppliers. This development, unsurprisingly, forced US companies to consider their cost structure in an attempt to see off this foreign competition. Companies quickly began to investigate the productivity of its workforce. One of the outcomes of this, which is judged to be one of the cornerstones of HRM, was to try to develop harmonious relations between employers and employees. The belief was already there that synergy could be created from the employee/employers relationship. Furthermore, it became apparent that an environment free of conflict could help unite an organisation so that individual employees could commit themselves to organisational success. This Unitarianism perspective became one of the antecedents of the development of HRM. Toward the end of the 1980ââ¬â¢s as more and more academics continued to produce a wealth of literature on the subject of HRM, it became clear that there was a recurring theme for those companies that appeared to perform extremely well in these market conditions. It became obvious in these increasingly dynamic markets that companies that were proactive to market change were able to do so as a result of motivated workforce. The question that was begging to be asked was ââ¬Ëhow they were able to this so wellââ¬â¢? The answer was through involved management styles that were instilling a culture in the workforce that was proactive rather than reactive. This is one of the key differences that will be referred back to later. It was suggested that these had been brought on by the intense competition and pressure, which eant a competent PM was more necessary than ever. There were several other socioeconomic changes that all acted as antecedents to the development and reshaping of PM that became known as HRM. These included increasingly strident demands of shareholders, changing work force (flexibility, part time largely through the employment of women), a changing age structure of the workforce, the young moving in the direction of private and service sectors, hence less prone to unionisation and finally increasingly mechanised manufacturing processes through new technologies. Differences between HRM and PM The second part of this essay looks at whether HRM was in actual fact a novel idea or whether in reality it was a re-labelling of PM. Looking through a variety of literature on the subject, it immediately becomes clear that it is extremely hard to find a definitive line to draw between HRM and PM. Legge for example mentioned he felt their wasnââ¬â¢t a huge difference between the two and in fact drew on some very clear similarities. However he does manage to point out some diverging aspects. While Torrington saw the development of HRM as only adding ââ¬Ëa further dimension to the multi faceted roleââ¬â¢ (5) therefore seeing HRM as an ongoing process in the evolution of PM. As a result he finds it hard to label HRM as a revolutionary model. There are those experts that do agree in the novelty of HRM. Itââ¬â¢s these authors that remind us not to play down the effects of HRM, mentioning that while many of the techniques in HRM are similar to those in PM, it is the philosophical context of HRM that makes these techniques so much more effective. The model of HRM unfortunately is not uniform and is made up of several different theoretical approaches therefore it becomes even harder to define clearly. This is perhaps what has muddied water so much in the debate of HRM and PM. Perhaps the easiest was to try and find an answer to this question is to compare the differences versus the similarities. Firstly the differences: Storey puts particular emphasis on the ââ¬Ëstrategic characterââ¬â¢ (1) and continuously mentioned how HRM decision and formulations of policies should take place on ââ¬Ëstrategic level within an organisationââ¬â¢. Meanwhile PM can be condemned for its limited consideration of business objectives during decision making. Another major concept that is fundamental to HRM (particularly in ââ¬ËSoftââ¬â¢ HRM) which cannot be identified in PM is the creation culture and values on an organisation level. The intention of this aspect is to drive towards employee commitment towards achieving organisational goals. This ââ¬Ëcommitmentââ¬â¢ can be seen as a precursor of motivation and performance (6). Furthermore we can consider the aspects of communication within HRM, whereby it rejects collective bargaining and attempts to set up direct channels of communication with individuals. By operating in this manor, HRM attempts to meet the individual needs of the employee so that they can then go on to contribute to the organisation. Consideration of the ââ¬Ëproactive versus reactiveââ¬â¢ argument can also identify differences (with HRM viewed as proactive and PM viewed as reactive). Proactive workforces enable organisations to pre-empt changes in markets. However they can only be implemented if the workforce is sufficiently motivated. The final major difference that can be identified is the emphasis that HRM places on training and development, that PM does not seem to identify with in the same way (5). When we contemplate the similarities of the PM and HRM we can consider Leggeââ¬â¢s work (he viewed the clearest change from PM to HRM to be the ââ¬Ëre-labelling processââ¬â¢). He established three main aspects than run through both forms of management. He stated that ââ¬Ëboth emphasised the importance of integration. Both sought to deliver the right people to the right jobsââ¬â¢ (he saw this as the principal role of the management of people in an organisation). Both PM and HRM gave people- management to ââ¬Å"lineâ⬠managers. Guest also discusses personnel development and functioning on a strategic level. However the above theses partially contradict what many other authors thought (6). In conclusion, we can accept that while HRM and PM contain significant similarities, we have to acknowledge that they differ in terms of their meaning and emphasis. Perhaps cultural aspects and strategic considerations would be the most important alteration, when converting from one theory to the other. Perhaps it would be wrong to say that HRM was a completely novel idea, especially when so many of the procedures and techniques overlap. However it is correct to say that HRM took many of the principles of PM and applied them to a different philosophy and way of thinking, and in doing so, inherently took the continuous evolution of PM to what we today call HRM.
British policies that have taken place since the end of the Second World War
In this essay I am going to be looking at British policies that have taken place since the end of the Second World War. The government have used a mixture of private and public welfare up until today; I am going to be looking into what ideologies influence the policies that have been put into place. Also throughout the essay I will explain how ideologies and policies have an effect on certain social groups in society. The term ideology is the ideas and beliefs of an individual or a group about how the world should be. There are lots of different political ideologies; the main two I will be looking into are Liberalism and social reformism. However both of these ideologies overlap with Marxist and conservative views which I will look at broadly. The first ideology I am going to look at is Social reformism also known as social democracy. This emerged from the late 1800ââ¬â¢s and was set up from the trade unions and non conformist churches such as Methodist in Britain. This ideology has very strong values in helping and supporting people who are worse off than their selves. They believe that the government has a duty to look after the worse off in society, and they try to do this through the welfare state. They believe that democratic change is the way forward to succeeding in society, this usually means voting will be used to determine what changes are made. Social reformism believes that the government should interfere with the running of society and that the large industries should all is state owned. Another one of their ideas is for everyone to have equal opportunities, also a part of this is the belief that if you have a big income that you should be taxed according to this. Read also Analyze the Ways in Which British Imperial Policies This means that the rich will be getting taxed more than the poor which will mean the money will be put into the state to help the worse off, to help everyone become more equal and have equal chances in life. The second ideology I am going to look at is Liberalism which is the philosophy of john Locke, Adam smith and John Stuart Mill. This ideology mainly started in the 1600ââ¬â¢s as a movement against the power of the monarchy however became more dominant in the 1800ââ¬â¢s. The Liberalists stand for freedom and protection of peopleââ¬â¢s rights and equality between everyone. Liberalists believe that the government should have none or very little involvement with the running of society. This includes limiting the state owned businesses and government powers over industries. From a economics point of view Liberalism believes that we should have a free market and free enterprise over the world. They encourage free trade so much in order to move forward towards being a more successful capitalist society. Liberalism does not want the state involved in the economy ect, as they believe it works best without any political input from the government. However as the liberalists believe in the protection of human rights they accept input in policing, courts, and the military as these are provided to protect individuals. The next ideology Iââ¬â¢m going to look briefly at is Marxism also known as socialism. Marxism was first introduced by Karl Marx who believed in having a classless society in the 1600ââ¬â¢s. Marxists believed that there were two main groups who were relevant in making the economic system worked. He called them the Bourgeoisie who are the owners of industry, and the proletariat who are the working class.Ap World History Units 1-3 Study Guide The Marxist idea is that the owners of industry exploit the working class to make as much profit out of them as possible. The Marxists notice this and have a view that a revolution should take place which would let the working class rise against the ruling class. Marxists believed that the state should be fully involved in society such as owning industries, and have control over health care, housing and a good welfare system to ensure everyone has equal opportunities at having a good life and a good standard of living. The last ideology that was mainly used was conservatism which emerged at the time of the French revolution 1789. Conservatism has a very traditional approach and believes in maintaining the status quo or having very little slow change. This ideology believes that the class system in our society works. They believe that having an upper class, middle class and working class is a functional way to live. They believe that we should be able to help the poor but not too much that they get dependent on societies input into helping them. In 1939 was the beginning of World War 2, where Britain took place in one of the toughest wars known to history. The war affected everyone in the country as individuals, businesses and families. Neville Chamberlain was the Prime minister of Britain at the beginning of World War 2, however in 1940 Chamberlain decided to resign and Winston Churchill became Prime Minister. Post war governments throughout 1945-1975 steered the economy and all the political parties to continue and to further support the welfare state. This time is also known as the kaynesian and Beveridgian period. William Beveridge was a social reformist who was asked to carry out a a report which was released in 1942. He believed that the government should pay to provide basic welfare, and take responsibility for helping the unemployed and people in poverty. In his report he said that the government should be able to tackle the ââ¬Å"5 evil giantsâ⬠Which are Want, Disease, Ignorance, Squalor and Idleness. The Beveridge report is such an important part of history because the Beveridge report helped produce the welfare state. Kaynes was an economist which argued that in times of recessions the government should invest into the economic system to help create jobs for people. This would be a good idea because as people now have jobs they will then be able to pay their money slowly back into the economy. However when the economy is booming the government should be able to have the power to be able to slow down the economy by introducing more taxes, this is so people donââ¬â¢t demand more goods as this may lead to inflation. Around the time just after the war there were a lot of social reformist approaches. Firstly The National Health Service Act (1948) was introduced. This act was established to give people a right to a free health service and free medical treatment for everyone. However when this Act was first mentioned GPââ¬â¢s were not fond of the idea and didnââ¬â¢t want to join. However this Act has affected many people throughout Britain For years such as Working Class Families. This Act has given them the opportunity to have free health care where as they may not have been able to afford medical treatment before which means we as a country are saving more lives through the NHS. The next Act i am going to look at is the National Insurance Act (1946). At this stage when the Act was first introduced everyone had to pay into it (employer, employee, and the government) which entitles you to sick pay and a pension. The next Act was the Childrenââ¬â¢s Act (1948), this gave the government responsibilities for looking after children in Britain and having the main power for the Childs Protection . Throughout 1946-1948 housing Acts were also introduced to help people get a better living standard. Between 1950-1975 we currently had nationalised industries. This meant that the government owned most of the large industries such as Coal, gas and electric. Within this time period the government also decided to get rid of the Grammar schools which meant also scrapping the 11+ exam and introduce comprehensive schools, which was also a social reformist idea. However they did decide not to abolish private schools which meant this also had a sense of a conservative approach. This is because keeping the private schools is only keeping the class difference the same of if anything making the gap larger. In the late 1970ââ¬â¢s family income support was introduced. This policy was pretty much the same as working tax credits however this meant that your income was supplemented to a good living standard. This was introduced to try and not let people get into the poverty cycle, people went through a means testing processes which the government believed was done very fairly and reached out to help a lot more people who were struggling or maybe not entitled to the original benefit. From 1979-1997 lots of changes were being made to society when the conservatives where in power. Margret Thatcher a conservative, re introduced a Liberalist approach into society. Even though Thatcher stood for the conservative party she introduced a lot of Liberalist ideas into the policies between 1979 and 1997. This idea of a new liberalist approach was known as The New Right. Thatcher believed that the state was being used too much and was too involved in peopleââ¬â¢s lives. This era is known as the welfare break up, as Margret Thatcher was very Anti welfare state and in favour for lowering the income tax. Thatcher decided to start De nationalising industries because she believed they were inefficient and there were way too many people employed. The railway, coal, BT and parts of the NHS were a few industries which where effected who were put into the hands of the private sector rather than the government meaning a lot of people loosing their jobs which is also a Liberalist approach. At this time the conservatives also tried to cut the welfare benefits; however did not successes with this due to the government worrying about riots because unemployment was at its highest at 4million which would leave a lot of people fending for them selves. However slight changes were made to the welfare system where they cut 16-18 year olds being able to get welfare benefits. This was because they wanted too push teenagers to go and get a job or go into education, this is where the government intruded the youth training system to help young people. In 1997 Labour won the election by a landslide victory making Tony Blaire MP. In the 1980ââ¬â¢s before Labour were elected socialists argued with social reformists within the labour party. This made some of the MPââ¬â¢s leave the labour party who chose to create a social democrat party, which has now formed into the Liberal democrat party. He also decided to change the name to ââ¬ËNew Labourââ¬â¢ as apposed to ââ¬ËOld Labourââ¬â¢ as they had removed some of their socialist ideology. They came up with an idea of a ââ¬Ëthird way approachââ¬â¢, this meant that they were able to take bits of ideologies and put them together to win votes. One example of this is labour not changing some of the privatisation of the NHS which would win over voters from more of a conservative background. Through 1997-2010 there were lots of policies introduced by the Labour government. Some of the policies took a very Liberalist approach and some took a Social reformism approach. I am firstly going to look at the policies which were introduced by social reformism under Labour government. The first Policy i am going to look at is the National Minimum wage. This was introduced so that people were able to only sell their labour for a good standard amount of money. This is also to helps people (especially working class) not to fall into poverty as they will be guaranteed a ââ¬Ëliveableââ¬â¢ wage. The minimum wage has changed since it was first brought in, as the minimum wage now stands at ?6. 08 for workers over the age of 21. Also to be re introduced was Working family tax credits, which Labour increased the amount of money people where able to get to supplement their income which reached out to working class families to help them have a better standard of living. The government were also very fond of trying to tackle child poverty. They did this by injecting money in to schools in low income areas to help the children get a better education in that area, and also supplying children with after school clubs and breakfast clubs to help families struggling financially. Another major policy brought in by Labour is Job seekers allowance. This was introduced to help people get back into work and to support them financially whilst doing so. Most of these policies introduced by social reformism under Labour government are there to help families with low income living in low income areas. Labour also had policies which were introduced by Liberalism. Firstly Labour continued to slowly de nationalise industries and introduce agencies to run the government department. Therefore this Liberalist view is mostly advantaging the Upper/middle class. This is because if Labour are still privatising parts of the welfare state for example social care the working class are going to be unable to pay for these services due to low income. Gordon Brown was elected for Labour in 2007 where Britain fell into a economical crisis. He then went to nationalise the banks which meant the government had to buy shares or all parts of the banks to ensure they didnââ¬â¢t go under, which is a socialist idea. In 2010 the Coalition government came into power which consisted of the Liberal democrats and Conservatives. There aims for Britain are to be able to reduce government spending by cutting back on the welfare, education and local government services which is based on Liberalist Ideology. Up to the present day to day Britain is still struggling to get back on its feet after the recession however things are improving.

My Blooms Taxonomy
Jake Hunter Instructor Peters Student Success 0200 31 October 2012 Bloomââ¬â¢s Taxonomy Essay I learned a lot of new ways in order to make myself a better student in student success. The 4 main skills I found most useful to me were note taking, time management, critical thinking, and reading. These 4 skills used together will make all the difference in school and grades. This class has showed many others useful tools but these are my most interested skills that I have learned and become interested in.Well with critical thinking Ill asked myself questions such as what did I just read and what if I had a test right now could I apply what I just learned. Applying what youââ¬â¢ve read is very important and studying and reviewing over what youââ¬â¢ve read is the most important thing. Why did I read this? Why am I taking notes? Applying the why to note taking and time management and the other 4 skills I find helpful helps me clarify what Iââ¬â¢m doing. Iââ¬â¢ve had encounter s when I ask myself why didnââ¬â¢t I read that information sooner or why didnââ¬â¢t I study and review over my notes I had taken? Why couldnââ¬â¢t I of managed my time better? Asking me these questions every day and trying to make solutions for them help me and will help anyone else. The important facts I learned about each of these skills in that they are not only helpful in school but at home and the workplace to. Note taking can be used anywhere even at home or work. All of these skills will help you become a better individual and allow you to create a better sense of who you are and how you learn. In time management you have ask yourself questions so that you can fit everything in your schedule. I plan to use my note taking skills in all my classes and outside of class so that I can review all of the information I need to every day right after I have a lecture or after work so I donââ¬â¢t forget my job duties. There is no such thing as too much studying and reviewing a nd reviewing makes things less cloudy so you have fewer questions to ask yourself.Iââ¬â¢ll use my time management skills to better schedule due dates and test schedules so they bite my from behind and so I wonââ¬â¢t forget about planning time for work and studying so I can make a decent grade on my final exams or important tests. Reading my information over and over will help my comprehend it better and leave less room for cloudiness and allow myself to have less and less questions about the information I need to learn so I can make a better grade on my tests and other assignments.I plan to do everything differently such as taking notes and studying a lot more physically. I plan to apply as much energy into my reviewing as much as I do in sports or in other activities. Reviewing and reviewing will help me understand things better and allow myself to be a better person and student. I plan to manage my time better and allow myself to create better schedules to get important thin gs done without sacrificing time for unimportant things. These skills will affect my life tremendously. Not only will it make me a better student but make things a lot easier. These skills Iââ¬â¢ve learned through this class have opened new doors and have showed me what I am actually capable of. I will learn these skills throughout my entire life and they will allow things to be much easier for me. The strategyââ¬â¢s I learned in note taking such as applying much more energy into reviewing information and reviewing it over and over so it wonââ¬â¢t seem cloudy will help me increase my knowledge while disciplining me in becoming a better student. Managing my time will not only help me with school task but for family and work also.
